Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Career Coaching?
Career coaching is a personalized, goal-driven process in which a professional coach works with you 1:1 to help you navigate your career — whether that’s landing a new role, making a career change, growing into leadership, or planning a relocation.
Unlike therapy or mentorship, career coaching is action-oriented and focused on results. A good career coach helps you build a strategy, develop your skills, and execute your plan — with accountability and support at every step.
A career counsellor typically focuses on assessments, career exploration, and helping people identify what they want to do. A career coach focuses on execution — helping you take action, build skills, and achieve specific professional goals like landing a role, negotiating an offer, becoming a better leader or transitioning into a new field.
Allora coaches are practitioner-led: our team comes from backgrounds in recruitment, talent leadership, and global mobility. We bring real-world hiring experience into every coaching engagement.
For most professionals, career coaching delivers a return that far exceeds its cost — especially when the outcome is a stronger job offer, a faster career transition, a promotion that would otherwise have taken years or navigating a relocation with a lot less stress.
Our clients don’t think of coaching as a cost. They think of it as the best career investment they’ve ever made. When we help you understand your market value, build a targeted strategy, and guide your negotiation, our clients commonly move into roles with significant compensation increases — in many cases far more than they invested in coaching.
Individual results vary based on role, level, industry, and market conditions. See what our clients say
A career coach can help you with a wide range of professional challenges, including:
- Job search strategy — where to look, how to apply, and how to stand out
- Resume, CV, LinkedIn profile, and personal brand
- Interview preparation and storytelling frameworks
- Salary negotiation and offer evaluation
- Career pivots and industry transitions
- Leadership development and promotion strategy
- Career planning and long-term goal setting
- Relocation planning — within the US or internationally
About Allora Collective
Allora Collective is a 1:1 career coaching practice founded in 2020 by Kelly Kugler, a career expert with 20+ years in recruitment, talent leadership, and global mobility. We help professionals navigate job searches, career transitions, leadership growth, and relocation — with real coaches who stay with you every step of the way.
Allora is more than a coaching service — it’s a collective of coaches, clients, and networks, all working in your corner. 80% of our clients come through referrals. We grow by getting results, not by adding volume. Meet Our Team
Allora is not a course, a group program, or an AI tool. You work directly with a real coach who learns your story, builds a strategy around your specific goals, and supports you between every session — not just during them.
Our coaches have real backgrounds in recruiting, hiring, and career transitions. We have sat in interview rooms, managed offers, navigated relocations, and coached hundreds of professionals through major career moves. We teach what we’ve done, not what we’ve read. Read our client stories

Yes. If you need clarity on one specific challenge — a role decision, an offer negotiation, or interview prep — you can book a single 60-minute 1:1 session with an Allora coach. How Career Coaching Works
The free consultation is a genuine conversation — not a sales call. We’ll ask about where you are in your career, what you’re working toward, and what’s getting in the way. Then we’ll be honest about whether Allora is the right fit, and if so, which plan makes the most sense.
Once you book the free consultation, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a short pre-session form — just a few questions to help us prepare and make the best use of our time together. You’ll leave the call with clarity, regardless of whether you decide to work with us. There’s no pressure and no obligation. Book yours today— it’s completely free. Book your free consultation
All sessions are conducted virtually via video link or phone call, your choice. You’ll have a dedicated scheduling link so you can book sessions at whatever time works best for you, including evenings and weekends depending on availability. Sessions are 30 or 60 minutes.
Between sessions, you have continuous access to your coach via email and a shared file system — so your coaching doesn’t stop when the call ends. You can share drafts, ask questions, or flag something that’s come up in your job search without waiting for the next session.
It depends on your goals and starting point. Clients focused on active job search coaching often see traction much quicker than those who don’t engage consistently — more interviews, stronger responses, better conversations. Clients working on longer-term goals like leadership development or industry pivots typically see meaningful progress over 3 to 6 months.
Most clients tell us they feel a difference in clarity and confidence after the first one or two sessions. Many tell us they wish they had started sooner.
Come ready to talk about where you are now and where you want to go. It helps to have thought about: your current role and what’s working or not, the type of move you’re considering, and any specific challenges you’re facing (job search, interviews, communication, leadership, negotiation, relocation).
You don’t need a polished plan or a perfect resume. Your coach will help you build that. Just bring an honest sense of where you are and what you’re hoping to change.
Who We Work With
Career coaching is for anyone who’s ready to stop leaving their career to chance and start moving with intention — with clarity, confidence, and a real plan behind them. Allora works with professionals from early career to the C-Suite, across tech, healthcare, design, operations, marketing, sales, and more.
Our core focus is professionals who are ready to make a deliberate move — a new role, a promotion, a career pivot, or a relocation. Many are currently employed and planning ahead. They’re not desperate, they’re deliberate. They want a coach who matches their ambition and their pace. See who we’ve helped
Yes — career pivots and industry transitions are one of our specialties. Changing careers is one of the most common reasons clients come to Allora. A career coach helps you identify transferable skills, reframe your story for a new audience, close any gaps, and build a job search strategy for your target role or industry.
Kelly specialises in career pivots and transitions across industries, with a particular focus on Director-level through C-Suite. She has navigated multiple pivots and relocations in her own career — which means she brings both strategic expertise and genuine first-hand empathy to the work and helping you adjust to new team environments, expectations or cultures. Chez brings complementary experience with career pivots in and around tech. Between them, most career change scenarios are well covered. Read pivot success stories.
Yes — most of our clients are currently employed. Many are planning their next move quietly and strategically, without disrupting their current role. Our 6- and 12-month plans are specifically designed for employed professionals who want to prepare, plan, and execute a career move at the right time — with the flexibility to accommodate a demanding job, a busy season, or whatever life throws in between.
Continuous between-session support means you can get coaching input as situations arise — a job posting, an internal opportunity, a conversation with a recruiter — without waiting for your next scheduled call.
One thing many clients don’t realise: your employer may already fund this. Career coaching is commonly covered as part of professional development, leadership development, or career growth benefits. If your company offers this, we can help you navigate the conversation with HR or your manager. And if it’s not a listed benefit? We’ve helped clients make the case to their manager directly — and it’s approved more often than you’d think.
Our primary focus is US-based professionals. We also work with clients in Canada, the UK, and across Europe — particularly those navigating international careers or relocations. Rachel Meda, our UK & EU Global Mobility Specialist, supports non-US clients alongside Kelly who has also lived in a few countries in Europe.
If you’re based outside the US and not sure if we’re the right fit, book a free consultation with Kelly and we’ll be upfront with you.
Relocation & Global Career Support
Yes — Allora specialises in career coaching for relocation, and it’s one of the things that genuinely sets us apart. Whether you’re thinking about relocating within the US or making a move to the UK or EU, we bring personal and professional experience most coaches don’t have.
Kelly has personally navigated multiple relocations — company-sponsored and independent — and the international visa process firsthand. Rachel Meda, our UK & EU specialist, brings deep, first-hand expertise in European career markets and expat job searches. We also have a vetted network of immigration attorneys, recruiters, and former colleagues across the US, UK, and Europe.
Yes. We support professionals exploring or planning a move from the US to the UK or Europe, including assessment of immigration options, job search strategy for the target market, CV and profile adaptation, networking in a new country, offer negotiations across currencies, and visa navigation support.
Kelly leads all US to UK and US to Europe coaching engagements, bringing cross-cultural career strategy and transition planning from the US perspective. Rachel Meda, our UK & EU Global Mobility Specialist, who has lived and built her career across France and the UK and contributes culture-specific insights works with our relocation clients as well— from interview expectations to lifestyle realities on the ground. Read the UK visa guide.
We don’t provide immigration legal advice — for that you need a qualified immigration attorney. However, we can help you understand your options, identify the right visa categories for your situation, and connect you with vetted resources from our network. This includes immigration attorneys we have personally researched, vetted, and in some cases worked with ourselves — so you’re not starting from scratch with a Google search.
Having been through the international visa process firsthand, we can help you approach it with far more confidence than going it alone. And depending on your situation, we may be able to connect you with attorneys in our network who offer preferential rates for Allora clients.
Getting Started
The right career coach depends on your goals, your industry, and your working style. The most important thing to look for is real, relevant experience — ideally someone recommended by a person in a similar situation, or someone whose background genuinely matches what you’re trying to do. For job search and career transitions, you want a coach who understands recruiting and hiring from the inside. For leadership, find someone who has actually built or managed teams. For relocation, find someone who has done it themselves.
Credentials matter less than track record and fit. The coaching industry has grown quickly, and the best coaches are usually the ones whose careers speak for themselves — not just their certifications.
At Allora, we match you with the coach whose experience best fits your goals. Book a free consultation and we’ll be upfront about whether we’re the right fit — and if not, we’ll say so. Meet our coaches.
That uncertainty is one of the most common reasons people book a free consultation. You don’t need to have a clear plan or a specific goal before you start — helping you get clarity is part of what the consultation is for.
There’s no obligation and no pressure. Many clients come in unsure and leave with a clear sense of what their next move looks like and whether coaching is the right way to get there.
Yes — we have 80+ testimonials from real clients at alloracollective.com/testimonials. They cover job search, offer negotiation, career pivots, leadership transitions, and relocation. 80% of our clients come through referrals — which we think is the most honest measure of results. Read all testimonials.
Book a free consultation. It takes two minutes and you’ll receive a confirmation email with the pre-session form immediately. Most clients begin their first coaching session within one to two weeks of their consultation.
There’s no paperwork, no pressure, and no pitch. Just an honest conversation about where you are and where you want to go.
